Raptor's Challenge | Ripper Demons

Today, the most sinister of November's four slayer monsters are unleashed upon the world: ripper demons.

These lethal melee-using monstrosities lurk in an abandoned mine east of Al Kharid, and can drop the deadly level-85 ripper claws.

They're a hard target for high-level slayers, and can crop up in the ongoing Raptor's Challenge. Remember to take your daily assignments from Raptor who's now outside Citharede Abbey - making the most of that double XP.

Read on for further details, or play now!

Where to find Ripper Demons
Enter the abandoned mine outside the Al Kharid east gate
You must be a RuneScape member
96 Slayer is required to harm the ripper demons
100 Combat is required to be assigned ripper demons by a slayer master
Other Information
Very high combat stats and your best gear are strongly recommended

Ripper demons come to you courtesy of Omnis's cracking RuneLabs pitch.

Until now, ripper demons have been the stuff of nightmarish legend referenced in the One Piercing Note quest, in historical accounts, in tales from the Eastern Lands, and in the Song from Before the War short story.

Now they're a terrifying reality. Jump down the steps alongside the path to Citharede Abbey and make your way down into the mine entrance. The rippers lurk deep beneath the abbey be sure you're prepared when you enter their lair.

We don't want to give too much away, but watch your health once a ripper demon has a taste of blood, it becomes all the deadlier. They're tricky devils, too, and you'll need to stay focused to avoid their attacks.

You'll soon find that that they're dangerous right up to the point of death. Positioning is key.

Survive, and you may pick up some ripper claws. These are level 85 weapons that when wielded as a pair - deal more damage the further the target's health is below 50%. Note that these are tradeable until they are first used.

Ripper demons can be assigned by Kuradal, Morvran and during November the Raptor. Note that once the month is up, the rippers will remain they're a permanent addition to the game.

Finally, while you're on a ripper demons assignment, watch out for the next part of the key to open Raptor's chest. Hold onto it, and look out for the remaining parts in the coming weeks!

Get stuck in and slay some rippers this week, and keep impressing the Raptor. Let us know what you think over on the forums.

Raptor's Challenge | Wyverns

Every week throughout November, we'll be releasing a new high-level monster fresh from RuneLabs. Each one's a fitting challenge for the most masterful of slayers among you and has some truly epic loot to claim.

This week's monsters are wyverns: the still-living forebears of the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon's skeletal monstrosities. Risk the cold, resist their potent poison, and claim the level 85 wyvern crossbow which has a damage-over-time passive effect and accompanying bolts.

In his ongoing quest to take down Gielinor's biggest game, the Raptor has set himself up south of Port Sarim as a slayer master for the month of November. Slayers of all levels can take a daily, level-appropriate assignment which grants double Slayer XP. Impress him over the course of the month for a Raptor-themed cosmetic armour set.

Read on for further details, or play now!

Where to Find Wyverns

100 Combat is required to be assigned wyverns by a slayer master

Wyrmfire potions will be a big help

Wyverns are the first of four devilish new beasts that we're unleashing from RuneLabs this month thanks to Anarchy Time for the awesome concept.

Head far into the frosty depths of the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon and you'll encounter these primal reptiles. Their massive poison damage can be mitigated the chillier you getbut cold comes with its own risks.

You're on your own from here it's down to you to work out the optimal wyvern-whacking technique, and to claim the wyvern crossbow from their corpses.

This wicked level 85 two-hander has an awesome passive DoT effect, so it can really crank out the damage. Look out for the matching bolts, too, to make the most of the mighty weapon.

Wyverns can be assigned by Kuradal, Morvran and during November the Raptor. Note that once the month is up, the wyverns will remain they're a permanent fixture.

Finally, while you're on a wyvern assignment, watch out for the first part of a key to open Raptor's chest. The remaining parts are to come when the other monsters are released.

How to Start Raptor's Challenge
Speak to Raptor south of Port Sarim
You must be a RuneScape member
Other Information
Ironman players can take part
Some specific limitations, listed below

Throughout November, Raptor will give you one slayer assignment per day.

The enemies assigned by Raptor are the same as those assigned by other masters, and will be appropriate to your level. They also award double Slayer XP.

Raptor's assignments have a number of differences, as compared to regular ones:

  • Social Slayer does not work when requesting an assignment from Raptor.
  • Assignment of enemies cannot be preferred, blocked or guaranteed using items or slayer point rewards.
  • Slayer helmet damage and accuracy effects do work, but the helmets have no interaction with the Raptor gem.
  • Slayer Tower contracts are prioritised over Raptor's assignments for the same creature pausing the Raptor version - and Raptor's assignments cannot make you eligible for special contracts.
  • Kills on a Raptor assignment do not count towards Slayer daily challenges, but do towards combat ones.
  • Raptor's assignments do not give a guaranteed elite mob spawn, but can spawn elites through random generation. Other slayer masters' wyvern assignments do guarantee an elite spawn, as normal.
  • You can have an assignment for Raptor and for a regular Slayer master at the same time, although these will not be for the same enemy. If there are no alternatives, the regular assignment will be prioritised and your Raptor assignment paused.

Once you have completed 15 Raptor assignments, you'll unlock a menacing set of Raptor-themed armour. This'll have a bloodthirsty twist an improved appearance unlocked by slaughtering the new high-level monsters. Details on this and more rewards to come later in the month!

Enjoy your wyvern wrangling this week, and start showing the Raptor what you're made of. Look out for a new monstrosity to tackle every week of November. Give us your feedback over on the forums.

Behind the Scenes | November 2015

This month's focused around a world-spanning slayer challenge from the one and only Raptor, with a new monster to fight each week and double Slayer XP from daily assignments, given by the big fella himself.

We've also got a long-awaited update to defenders, awesome divination outfits and the closed beta of Chronicle: RuneScape Legends.

Raptor's Challenge

For the month of November, the Raptor has undertaken one of Gielinor's most noble callings being a slayer master!

Any RuneScape member of any Slayer level - can try their hand at completing Raptors assignments, for double Slayer XP and the opportunity to unlock some cracking new rewards.

There's a special suit of Raptor-themed cosmetic armour available, one that can upgrade its looks if you take on four brand new slayer monsters that we are releasing throughout the month.

Each has a unique drop and devious combat mechanics, and requires 96 Slayer. All of these magnificent creations came from you via RuneLabs and the polls, so if you die horribly, you'll have to blame Anarchy Time, Omnis, Syrus Coy and Adelunth for their brutal ideas!

Firstly there are wyverns horrific beasts that live in the freezing conditions of the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon. You'll have to keep an eye on the hostile environment to defeat these bad boys, and hope that they'll drop the new lvl 85 wyvern crossbow with its powerful passive damage-over-time effect.

Wyvern Concept

Next up are ripper demons, the horrible reality behind the legend established in One Piercing Note. Lurking in a cave near Al Kharid and equipped with powerful claws, these guys are highly mobile, leaping from the shadows and preying on the unready with devastating effect. Their unique drop is the level 85 ripper demon claws, which become more damaging the lower your opponent's health is.

Ripper Demon Concept

Camel warriors are far from comedic, although they do look very strange indeed. These mysterious soldiers are investigating an island east of Sophanem, and are capable of using both magic and physical violence. You'll have to be wary of their mirage-based tactics and adapt accordingly. They drop the awesome level 85 camel staff, which can reduce the accuracy of your target's own attacks as it's used.

Camel Warrior Concept

Finally - without doubt my favourite of the four - are the giant Acheron mammoths. These huge, lumbering beasts live on a distant iceberg and have a surprising turn of speed. They're capable of trampling you into the ground like a puny insect or smashing you about with their relentless charge. They have a particularly awesome unique drop the ingredients to make a level 99 summoning pouch for a new best-in-slot beast of burden!

Acheron Mammoth Concept

All four of these new high-level mobs can drop key parts that - when combined together - open Raptor's chest to access even more rewards.

Therell be brand new defenders being added from level 70 all the way up to level 90. Right now, were just releasing the melee versions, with ranged and magic defenders coming out later.

The new defenders are drops from the Barrows, Nex and the Kalphite King, but youll need to grab the lower-tiered defenders before you have a chance to get the higher ones. So grab your dragon defender and get ready to cross the world to find all three of the tasty new weapons.

There are a few extra steps to completing each one, so keep a look out for more info on them over the next few weeks.

Divine Simulacrum | Rares

We're adding Divine Simulacrum outfits to Treasure Hunter that can speed up your divination training, and can be combined for even greater divination-related rewards.

We're also giving you an extra chance to grab those rare items from the Rare Store - increasing rare tokens for a special weekend and reducing the token price of the rares themselves.

Chronicle | Closed Beta

Finally, I'm very proud to announce that the closed beta for our brand new strategy card game Chronicle: RuneScape Legends - will be launching on the 25th of November. It's a fantastic game that's well worth trying out, so pop over to the Chronicle website, watch the trailer and sign up for the beta! It's the perfect game to play while training those low-intensity skills.

As a closed beta, we will be inviting a few thousand people at a time from those signed up, with more being added later, so get in quick!

Have fun, W00ters Out!
